Minister Donnelly visits Mount Carmel Community Hospital

It was brilliant to welcome Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly to view progress on the construction of the South Dublin Surgical Hub at Mount Carmel, Braemor Park in Dublin recently. Minister Donnelly met with members of the media, Councillors and Clancy Associate Director Tom O’Malley on his visit to the hospital.

The refurbishment of Mount Carmel Community Hospital will deliver a 1st Floor Clinical Hub and relocation of 16 x short stay beds to the 4th floor accompanied with admin and support rooms. Health Service Executive patients will be treated here in the coming months, ensuring speedier access to day case care for many.

Six of the hubs are being developed nationally to impact day-case waiting lists in advance of the delivery of regional elective hospitals. Speaking on the day, Minister Donnelly said “we are not resting on our laurels, we’re going to keep the momentum going, we’re going to keep adding capacity, and we’re going to reform as well. One of the really important reforms is the surgical hubs. I’ve sanctioned six surgical hubs around the country. These will do day-case procedure minor operation, some major operations as long as they don’t require inpatient care” he concluded.
