Clancy Awarded Beacon Hospital Expansion Project

Clancy Construction is proud to announce that we have been selected as the main contractor for the design and build of a major new expansion to Beacon Hospital in South Dublin. This landmark project represents a significant milestone for Clancy and reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering world-class healthcare facilities across Ireland.

A Transformative Development for Beacon Hospital

Located on the former site of the Beacon Hotel, the new development will see the construction of an 8-storey extension to the existing Beacon Hospital. This substantial addition will include:

  • A state-of-the-art Emergency Department
  • 70 new inpatient beds
  • A modern Cancer Day Unit
  • Four new residential apartments

The new structure will connect directly to the existing hospital from levels 3 to 8, allowing for seamless clinical and operational integration. The development will be delivered adjacent to both the current hospital and the Beacon One apartment complex, which will be expanded through the conversion of five former meeting rooms into four new apartments, maintaining a clear separation from the hospital zone.

The project also includes isolated works at basement levels and within existing wards on levels 3 to 6, all to be carried out with careful coordination to minimise disruption in the live hospital environment.

Building on Trust and Collaboration

John O’Shaughnessy, Managing Director of Clancy Construction, expressed his pride in the appointment:

“We are honoured to be entrusted by Beacon Hospital with this transformative expansion. The complexity of the project and its location beside a live hospital reflect the confidence in our ability to deliver sensitive, high-quality healthcare construction. We look forward to working closely with all stakeholders in a collaborative manner to bring this ambitious vision to life.”

Michael Cullen, CEO of Beacon Hospital, also welcomed the partnership:

“Beacon Hospital is delighted to be partnering with construction experts Clancy and is reassured that construction-related disruption will be kept to a minimum for our patients and their families, our staff, as well as our neighbours and local businesses. This significant project will provide the hospital with an additional 40% capacity, allowing us to expand our services to meet the growing healthcare needs of our community.”

Delivering Complex Projects with Confidence

Clancy has a proud track record in the delivery of complex healthcare projects in live clinical environments. This Beacon Hospital expansion builds on our reputation for excellence in construction, collaboration, and patient-focused delivery.

We are thrilled to be part of Beacon Hospital’s continued journey of growth and innovation — and to play our part in shaping the future of healthcare in Ireland.
