Project name and location
Phoenix House, Trinity College, South Leinster St, Dublin 2
Phoenix House is a 2850m2 centre for research and teaching in one of Ireland’s most prestigious 3rdlevel institutes. This four storey over basement building, located on Nassau St, was completely refurbished to the highest of standards. Previously an office block, Phoenix House has been transformed into an academic centre complete with lecture theatres, study rooms and a thorough overhaul of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The building features an innovative glass façade and ventilation system controlled by the building management system.
The biggest challenge was the installation of the glass curtain wall. As the site was fronting onto Nassau St. one of the busiest thoroughfares in Dublin, installation by mobile crane was not possible.
How we overcame the challenge
We installed an electrical winch on the roof which allowed us to complete the installation section by section. Safety as always was the paramount issue and it was important to ensure that the surrounding area which is busy throughout the day was not disrupted.
