Project details

This project consisted of the extension, refurbishment and fit out of the existing Emergency Department and Neonatal Suite. The works comprised of a three storey extension, which is 3,166m2 in area and a three storey extension in another area of 500m2 which was in a very confined enclosed courtyard. Other works included the refurbishment of the existing Emergency Department and Neonatal Suite. The refurbishment of the existing hospital was 1,500m2. There was also extensive drainage and services installed. Due to the complexity of the works the project was carried out over 10 phases.

The challenge

Noise and dust were a major challenge on a daily basis as the Accident & Emergency, Maternity Wards and Theatres were fully operational during the construction phase.

As the A&E was directly behind our new building an alternative route had to be made to facilitate ambulance access.

How we overcame the challenge

We carried out all drilling and noisy works at times that were agreed with management. Dust was kept out from the live hospital by means of specially erected dust partitions. We used an electric remote control digger to carry out the works so as to not allow fumes build up within the live hospital confines.

This project was delivered on time and within budget.
